Sunday 11:00 AM Eucharist
August 29, 2021
WELCOME IN THE NAME OF JESUS! and Worship with us at our 11:00 AM Sunday Eucharist on the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. The Rev’d. Dr. Samuel David Zumwalt, STS, preaches the sermon, “The Word of God: Raises Us” (Romans 6:1-5). From the console of our 47 rank Austin pipe organ with trompette-en-chamade, Bill Glisson leads Sunday: “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus” (Entrance); “We Were Baptized in Christ Jesus” (Hymn of the Day); “The Son of God Goes Forth to War” (Recessional). Our Sunday distribution hymns are: “Rock of Ages,” “Sing Praise to the God of Israel,” and “How Firm a Foundation.” The color for Sunday is red signifying the blood of the martyrs. You are invited to wear red to worship.
Special music for the weekend: Deux Voix (Stephen Distad and Justin Langham) provides special music at 11 a.m. “Prelude in A Minor” (J.S. Bach) played by Stephen Distad; for the offering, “Adagio Cantabile from Sonata Pathetique” (Beethoven) played by Stephen Distad; for the postlude, “Invention in D Minor for Organ and Trumpet” (Bach/Langham).
We also invite you to enjoy Deux Voix in concert at 4 p.m. in the nave. Deux Voix, an organ and trumpet duo from Houston TX, appears as part of our celebration of the new division and new digital console added to our Austin pipe organ. The Deux Voix concert is made possible by a grant from the St. Matthew’s Endowment Fund.
